| William Lee “Buck” Ford William Lee “Buck” Ford, age 87, of Moorefield, WV passed this life on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at the Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg, WV. Born on June 23, 1923 in Moorefield, he was the son of the late John K. Ford and Betty Virginia Tross Ford. He was preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle Ford and four brothers, Robert Ford, Thomas Ford, James Ford and Jimmy Ford. Buck was the last member of his immediate family. He is survived by three nephews, Gregory Ford, Steven Ford of Moorefield, whom he resided with and Samuel Ford, four nieces, Patricia Ford, Faye Ford, Juanita Ford, Pauline Valentine and a host of cousins, great-nephews and great nieces. Buck went to school on Allegheny Street in Moorefield and received the rest of his education from reading books and traveling part of the world. He received enough education to get him through until he was no longer able to work. At the age of 14, Buck ran away from home to join the rodeo. Buck’s passion was saddled Bronx Riding and Bull Riding. He served in the United States Air Force and Army Corp of Engineers during WWII. After the war ended, Buck returned to his passion in rodeo. Buck worked on Gene Autry’s Texas Ranch in the 1940’s and produced the thrill show, “Hell on Wheels” in the 1950’s. He worked for country music singer, Loretta Lynn for many years and lived at The Longhorn Ranch in White Creek, Tennessee. Buck retired from driving tractor & trailer and transporting livestock and lived his remaining life in Moorefield. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Elmore Funeral Home in Moorefield, WV. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011 at the funeral home with Bishop Henderson Wheeler officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Moorefield, WV. Arrangements are under the direction of the Elmore Funeral Home. |
