William A. Jones
William A. Jones, age 84, of Old Fields, WV died on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the VA
Hospital in Martinsburg, WV, following a brief illness. Born on August 13, 1923 in Hollywood,
MD, he was the son of the late John Jones and Laura C. Kline Jones.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by one daughter, two stepsons, one sister, and one brother.
He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Marion Jones of 47 years, whom resides
in Old Fields, WV, one son, Todd M. Jones and wife, Cherie. Also surviving him are two half
brothers, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces,
nephews, and many special friends from Canada.
Mr. Jones attended Catholic University in Washington, D.C. receiving his 1st
class-engineering license in D.C. and his 2nd class-engineering license in Maryland. He was an
engineer at Safeway Stores for 27 years. Mr. Jones served in the navy and oil king during
World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Prince George Rod & Gun Club.
Mr. Jones shot at Vandalia, Ohio in the Grand American Trap Shoot, hitting 100 out of100
straight; he also shot on Governor Mandrels squad in Maryland. He was an avid hunter and
fisherman.
Mr. Jones lived and worked hard in Maryland; he spent 46 years at his vacation/retirement
home in Canada, and wintered in Old Fields, WV for 17 years. He was a Methodist by faith and
attended the Duffey United Methodist Church in Moorefield, WV.
Funeral services are private and at his request, his remains cremated. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
