Charles Walter “Sud” Southerly

  Charles Walter “Sud” Southerly, age 87, of Moorefield, WV passed this life on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the
Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, WV.  Born in Moorefield, WV on February 14, 1924, he was the son of the late Ocie W.
Southerly and Nancy Wolfe Southerly, and was preceded in death by one brother, Earl W. Southerly.

Walter is survived by his wife, Helen Rhodes Southerly of Moorefield, two sons, Charles Walter Southerly, II and William Rhodes
Southerly and wife, Melinda, all of Morgantown, WV, two sisters, Jean McDonald of  Petersburg, WV, Alma Fogle of Brooksville, MD
and one grandson, Guy Douglas Southerly.

He was an active member of the Duffey Methodist Church in Moorefield, former Trustee & Chairman of the Finance Committee and
Administration Board and was a member of the Adult Bible Class. He most recently attended the Church of the Brethren in Moorefield.
He was employed by Peoples Life Insurance Company for 35 years. He was a 32 degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge #29 AF & AM
of Moorefield, a member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry of Wheeling, WV, a member of the Moorefield VFW Post 9606 and a life
member of the American Legion Post 64. He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Navy for three years in the
South Pacific. He graduated from Moorefield High School in 1944.

Walter and Helen have lived in Petersburg, WV, Glouchester Court House VA, Winchester, VA and Moorefield, WV. Walter loved his
family, his church and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Family will receive friends on Friday, March 11, 2011, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Elmore Funeral Home in Moorefield, with funeral
services on Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., with Pastors Russell and Lucy Webster and Danny Sterns officiating. Burial will
follow at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV, a Masonic graveside service will be conducted by Mason Lodge #29 AF & AM of
Moorefield, and Military graveside rights will be accorded by the Moorefield Honor Guard and the United States Navy.

Memorial donations may be made to the MAC House in Moorefield, WV.
