Virginia Catherine (Wilson) Evans

Virginia Catherine Evans, age 93, died on Tuesday April 26, 2011, at the E.A. Hawse Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Baker,
WV. She was a beautiful lady in every manner and loved her family dearly.  Born in Rio, WV, she was the daughter of the late Robert
Bell Wilson and Rebecca Gertrude (Crites) Wilson.

Her husband, Selvin O. Evans preceded her in death in 1982 after a long illness during which Virginia was his constant caregiver.
Together they had 3 boys, Richard, Wayne (deceased), and Marlin. Her sons in turn blessed her with loving daughters-in-law, Donna,
Ruth, and Joyce; six grandchildren, Steve (Daira) Evans, Deborah (Jeffery) Milburn, Theresa (David) Handy, Kathy (Russell) Coon,
Tina (Beverly) Grim, Brenda (Alan) Richardson and 12 great grandchildren, Chelsey, Garrett and Zachary Evans, Kevin and Eric
Milburn, Nathan, Evan, Jenny and Melody Handy, Gregory Nelson, and Ali and Brianna Richardson. She is also survived by two loving
sisters, Naomi Wilson Hoover and Mary Wilson Webber.

Virginia was an employee at Hester Industries for 35 ½ years. Most of those years, she worked in the test kitchen developing new
products. She retired at the end of 1989. Besides her full time job, she cut and styled hair for many people; she baked and decorated
thousands of beautiful wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes.
She daily read and faithfully believed in the Bible. She served in several churches, sometimes two at a time. For fifty plus years, she
attended Moorefield Presbyterian Church serving in various leadership roles, including president of her Sunday School class. Then in
the evening, she attended the Old Fields Baptist Church.

At the age of 86, Virginia entered E.A. Hawse Nursing and Rehab Center. While she was still able, she was active in various
programs and activities offered there. She served five years as the Resident Council President. She loved to play bingo and was
rather successful at it. She was always one to help others and she continued that while able in the nursing home. Church services at
the nursing home always found Virginia in attendance. She especially enjoyed the loving care and attention provided in the services
led by Nicholas and Sherry Yurcaba. When the time came that she could no longer care for herself, Virginia really enjoyed visits from
friends and family. She especially looked forward to the weekly visits of Eileen Poland, who claimed she was a “32nd cousin once
removed.” Eileen’s visits were a true blessing to Virginia.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Elmore Funeral Home on Thursday, April 28, 2011. A funeral service will be
conducted at the funeral home on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Nicholas “Nick” Yurcaba officiating. Burial will
follow at the Asbury Cemetery in Beans Settlement, WV.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Elmore Funeral Home.
