Orrie “Shobie” Fisher
Orrie “Shobie” Fisher, age 99, of Fisher, WV passed this life on Wednesday, November 22,
2006 at her residence. Born on May 26, 1907 in Dorcas, WV, she was the daughter of the late
Joseph Wilbur Shobe and Lucy Lee Smith Shobe.
Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by her husband, John Welton Fisher in 1977. She was also
preceded in death by four sisters, one brother, and one grandchild.
“Shobie” is survived by two daughters, Jane Fisher Wilkins of Riverton, WV, Lucy Fisher West
of Fisher, WV, and a son, John Welton Fisher, II of Morgantown, WV. Also surviving her are seven
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Fisher was a schoolteacher at the Grant County Spring Run School for two years. She
taught at the Hardy County River Side School, and taught fifth and sixth grade at the Durgon
School, where she served as Principal prior to her marriage. “Shobie” was member and a Sunday
school teacher of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Fisher was also member of the DAR,
the Eastern Star, the Colonial Dames 17th Century, the Daughters of Confederacy, and former
member of the Petersburg Garden Club.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2006 at the Elmore
Funeral Home in Moorefield. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday,
November 25, 2006 at the Moorefield Presbyterian Church with Pastor Katherine Jackson and
Pastor Dan Howard officiating. Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV.
