Laura Evelyn Gibson Dasher
Laura Evelyn Gibson Dasher, widow of Joseph G. Dasher, died at Rockingham Memorial
Hospital December 19, 2006. She was the last surviving member of her generation, which
included 7 sisters and 3 brothers.
She was 91 years old. Originally from the Morgantown area, she married Joseph Dasher in
1954 and has been a long time resident of the South Fork area. Survived by her son, Dr. and
Mrs. O. James Gibson of Claremont, CA., and her stepson, Donald Dasher of Moorefield and
grandchildren, nieces and nephews in WV, TX and IL.
Laura, a member of the MT. OLIVE LUTHERAN CHURCH, was active in the community. She
was a member of the Peru Community Center and participated in their many fund raising and
community activities. She was also active in crafts and was an avid weaver demonstrating
historic weaving techniques at various State and local venues. She served 3 terms as a
member of the Silver Haired Legislature. Prior to being a resident at Pendleton Nursing Home,
she volunteered her services there.
Visitation will be at Elmore Funeral Home in Moorefield from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday,
December 21, 2006, and services will be at the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Peru, WV on
Friday, December 22, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Larry Cantu officiating. Burial will follow
at the Church Cemetery in Peru.
