| Ella Bergdoll Ella Bergdoll, age 100, of Moorefield, WV passed this life on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Heartfield Nursing Home in Richmond, VA. Born in Moorefield, WV on October 2, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J Bergdoll and Mattie “Patsy” Harper Bergdoll. Ms. Bergdoll was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia B Whitesell, which makes her the last member of her immediate family. Ms. Bergdoll is survived by one nephew, Jim Tom Whitesell and his wife Paula, of Sierra Vista, AZ, and numerous cousins. Ella was a devoted teacher for more than 40 years. Her career began with her education at St. John’s Junior College in Petersburg, WV, and Blackstone College, Blackstone, VA, where she was involved in the Alpha KAPPA Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma; she was the oldest living member. Ms. Bergdoll was employed at the Hardy County Board of Education. In her tenure, she was the President of the WV Classroom Teachers Association (1959-1961) and the WV Education Association (1968). She retired in 1976. Ella was a member of Duffy United Methodist Church and sang as a member of its choir for more than 70 years. She was also a member of Durgon CEO’s Club for more than 60 years. In 1940, she was initiated into the Order of the Eastern Star and was a lifetime member of the Moorefield Chapter #102, holding a number of offices including “Worthy Matron.” She was also an active member of the local HCEA. Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 11, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elmore Funeral Home in Moorefield, WV. A funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Reverend Dr. Jay Parkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV. Pallbearers are John Harper, Roy Harper, Nathan Bergdoll, Sam Harper, Ralph “Cap” Smith, III, Robbie Harper, Don Lee, and Doug Boswell. Memorial donations may be made to your church of choice.
