Dorothy J. Gibson Barr
Dorothy “Dot” J. Gibson Barr, age 80, of Chambersburg, PA, passed this life on Tuesday, January 27,
2009 at the Menno Haven Nursing Center in Chambersburg, PA. Dorothy, better known to family and friends
as “Dot,” was born on August 2, 1928 in Shelbyville, TN, and she was the daughter of the late T.L. and Addie
R. Gibson.
“Dot” was preceded in death by her only sibling, Helen, one grandson and five great
grandchildren.
Dot” is survived by her husband, Burns Barr, Jr. They were married in 1945 and resided in Moorefield, WV
prior to illness in 2000. Also surviving is her daughter, Linda Beckner and husband, Roger of St. Thomas, PA,
two sons, Thomas Barr and wife, Linda R. and Burns Barr, III and wife, Linda E., all of Chambersburg, PA.,
eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
“Dot” had previously worked at Barr’s Appliance, Hester Industries, and retired in 1995 as a Region 8
Planner in Petersburg, WV. She was a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church in Moorefield,
WV, a 54-year member of Moorefield OES and was a past worthy matron. “Dot” loved her flowers and enjoyed
her spring plants the most. She like to read and was an avid bridge player, having earned master’s points in
the game.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2009 at the Elmore Funeral Home in
Moorefield, WV. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the
funeral home with Pastor Ed Craft officiating. Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, WV.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Elmore Funeral Home in Moorefield, WV.
