Burns Barr Jr. 7-4-09
Burns Barr Jr. entered into heaven on July 4, 2009. He had resided at Menno Haven Nursing Center in
Chambersburg, PA, but was formerly of Moorefield, WV.
Born in Rig, WV on August 28, 1922. “June” was the youngest child of Burns Sr. and Nora Simmons Barr. He was
preceded in death by four sisters and three brothers.
June was a member of Duffey Memorial Methodist Church and was married in 1945 to Dorothy (Dot) Gibson, who
preceded him in death on January 27, 2009. Prior to moving to Chambersburg, PA, they had lived at 313 Mountain
View Drive, Moorefield, WV.
June was U.S. Army veteran having served in both World War II and Korea. He had worked for over 30 years with M.
A. Bean Motor Co. Later he worked and retired from Potomac Valley Transit, Petersburg, WV.
June was a lifelong member of the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company; a charter member of the Valley View Golf
Course. He really enjoyed traveling with his friends to the various tri-state courses.
June is a 54 year member of Moorefield Masonic Lodge #29 AF and AM, serving several years as worshipful
master. He was also a 54 year member of OES, also serving several years as worthy patron.
In 1945, June was married to Dorothy (Dot) Gibson. Other survivors are daughter Linda and her husband Roger
Beckner, and two sons Thomas and his wife Linda R, and Burns III and his wife Linda E. There are also eight
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and was preceded in death by one grandson and five great-grandchildren.
The Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 7, 2009, from 6-8 p.m., at which time the
Moorefield Order of the Eastern Star will conduct their service at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Elmore Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., with
Pastor Jay Parkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Olivet Cemetery in Moorefield, at which time the Moorefield
Masonic Lodge #29 will conduct their service, and be followed by Military Graveside Rites afforded by the Moorefield
Veterans Honor Guard.
Memorial donations may be made to Duffey Methodist Church or Menno Haven Nursing Center in Chambersburg,
PA. Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of Elmore Funeral Home.
